In May 2026, Bulgaria registered no monthly inflation, according to data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI). The Consumer Price Index showed a flat month-on-month reading, while annual inflation stood at 6.9 percent.
The NSI also reported that inflation since the beginning of the year, measured from May 2026 compared with December 2025, reached 3.8 percent. The average annual inflation for the June 2025–May 2026 period compared with the previous year was 5 percent. In April, monthly inflation had been 1.8 percent and annual inflation 6.8 percent, while preliminary estimates had pointed to higher figures. Earlier months showed a gradual easing from higher readings at the start of the year, with January annual inflation at 3.5 percent and subsequent months fluctuating between 3.3 and 4.1 percent.
Price movements in May varied significantly across sectors. Increases were recorded in restaurant and hotel services, alcoholic beverages and tobacco, transport, communications, healthcare, utilities, household goods, and clothing. At the same time, declines were registered in entertainment and cultural activities, food products and non-alcoholic beverages, and personal care items. Prices in education and financial services remained unchanged.
