An unknown individual set fire on June 15, 2026, to two vehicles belonging to the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Skopje, in an incident that has triggered a sharp diplomatic response from Sofia and renewed concerns over security in North Macedonia.

According to initial information, the attacker poured a flammable substance over a Suzuki Vitara parked in front of the diplomatic mission and ignited it. The fire then spread to a second embassy vehicle located nearby. Both cars carried diplomatic license plates.

Emergency services and police units were deployed shortly after the incident. The perimeter around the embassy was quickly secured and cordoned off as authorities began investigative procedures. The suspect fled the scene and remains unidentified, while a search operation is ongoing. No injuries have been reported.

Skopje firefighters managed to contain the blaze before it could cause further damage, an intervention later highlighted by Bulgarian officials as crucial in limiting the consequences of the attack.
