Silindile Mbuyazi, a South African dive instructor and conservationist, has been named a recipient of the 2026 Wayfinder Award presented by Kia by the National Geographic Society.
The National Geographic Society has named South African dive instructor and conservationist Silindile Mbuyazi among the recipients of the 2026 Wayfinder Award presented by Kia, recognising her work in ocean conservation and storytelling.
The award is presented to individuals driving innovation and leadership in science, conservation, education and storytelling.
Silindile Mbuyazi, known as “Mama Sli,” is a Dive Master and NEWF Dive Instructor with the Nature, Environment and Wildlife Filmmakers (NEWF). She has trained more than 150 divers and supported programmes in Ghana, Tanzania and Cameroon aimed at expanding diving skills and ocean access, particularly among African women, scientists and storytellers.
