Spain’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, announced on May 25, contains no Real Madrid players. Not one. In the entire history of Spain’s World Cup participation, this has never happened before.

The squad that broke tradition

Coach Luis de la Fuente named his roster for the tournament being held across the US, Canada, and Mexico this June. Eight Barcelona players made the cut. Zero from the Santiago Bernabeu.

Among the notable inclusions is 16-year-old Lamine Yamal, Barcelona’s teenage sensation.

Among the notable exclusions: Real Madrid defenders Dean Huijsen and Dani Carvajal.
