Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked the United Kingdom for detaining a Russian shadow fleet oil tanker off its coast.

According to Ukrinform, the head of state announced this in an evening address.

“Today, we also have a particular reason to thank Britain: the British have detained a Russian oil tanker off their coast, and this is the first such move by the British,” the President noted.

According to him, detaining ships from Russia’s shadow fleet has become a good tradition in European waters this year. “Oil must be stopped so that Russia’s war comes to a halt. Thank you, Britain,” Zelensky emphasized.

In addition, he noted that starting next week, they will discuss with European partners ensuring that “legislative changes finally allow for the longer-term detention of tankers that are making money for Putin’s war—exclusively for him—and the confiscation of that oil.”
