HYDERABADUnion Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy rejected Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s demand for the resignation of BJP MPs over the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project, stating that the Centre had already approved the project and was ready to bear 50% of the cost.He also alleged that the State government led by Congress had failed to fulfil the promises made to the people of Telangana during the Assembly elections.Addressing a party workers’ meeting at Amberpet, Mr. Reddy said the Union government had provided substantial financial support for the first phase of the Metro Rail project, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With the Centre extending support to the second phase as well, he questioned the rationale behind the Chief Minister’s criticism of BJP MPs.He claimed that voters had supported the Congress based on assurances given by its national leadership, but several commitments remained unimplemented even after two-and-a-half years in office. Accusing the State government of neglecting civic issues in Hyderabad, he urged people to assess the government’s performance and strengthen the BJP. He highlighted various development works undertaken with Central assistance at Amberpet and adjoining areas.Mr. Reddy also alleged that certain AIMIM leaders, with the support of the previous BRS government, had created hurdles to road development works near the Amberpet Mahankali temple during the flyover construction.‘Cong. govt. failures’Speaking at the same meeting, BJP State president N. Ramchander Rao called upon party workers to reach every household and expose what he termed the failures of the Congress government ahead of the forthcoming Municipal Corporation elections.Mr. Rao alleged that the Congress government had failed to honour several election promises, resulting in growing public discontent. He accused the government of misleading farmers on paddy procurement and claimed that procurement operations were taken up only after sustained pressure from the BJP.Challenging the Chief Minister for an open debate on the Centre’s contribution to Telangana, Mr. Rao claimed that the Narendra Modi-led government had sanctioned projects and assistance worth over ₹13 lakh crore to the State.Targeting both the Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), he alleged that the two parties were shielding each other in matters relating to the Kaleshwaram project and the Vote-for-Note case. Referring to the recent rains in Hyderabad, he criticised the government’s preparedness and questioned its handling of urban infrastructure.Alleging that the Congress, BRS and AIMIM were pursuing similar political agendas, he appealed to voters to support the BJP in the upcoming Municipal Corporation elections and asserted that Hyderabad would witness better development under a BJP-led civic administration.
