Kena Betancur / Getty ImagesJune 14, 2026 10:28 am EDT Updated The New York Knicks’ first NBA title in 53 years drew a huge crowd outside Madison Square Garden and on the surrounding blocks, which ultimately led to dozens of arrests.Tens of thousands of fans gathered on the streets near MSG, the NYPD said. Police made 63 arrests related to Knicks celebrations, while 10 officers were injured.A 17-year-old was shot several blocks north of MSG and had to be taken to a nearby hospital by the police, the NYPD said, because an ambulance could not get through the crowd of celebrators. Police recovered a gun on the scene and took three people they say are of interest into custody. Four others were slashed or stabbed.Those were the most significant injuries from a raucous night across New York. The NYPD said that one officer was punched in the face and another was hit by a glass bottle. Five cop cars were damaged, with fans smashing their windshields with bats or jumping stop them.Five school buses that were used to transport fans to the World Cup in New Jersey were set on fire or damaged by rowdy fans.The Knicks run excited the city but also brought many onto the streets, packing bars and restaurants before, during and after games. The city and team held watch parties across the New York during the last few weeks.The Knicks will hold a parade Thursday down the Canyon of Heroes in lower Manhattan that will likely draw tens, if not hundreds, of thousands more to the streets.
