President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has disclosed that former military Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, privately counsels him and does not engage in public criticism of sitting presidents, describing the retired military leader as one of his most discreet and trusted advisers.
Tinubu made the remarks on Saturday during the marking of his 84th birthday celebration and the public presentation of three important books held in his honour.
According to the President, the former military ruler has consistently chosen the path of quiet influence rather than public confrontation, offering guidance through private memos and personal suggestions instead of media commentary or open criticism.
“As President, General Abubakar has been one of my best and most discreet advisers,” Tinubu said, commending the elder statesman for what he described as rare political maturity and restraint.
