Some employees of the City Corporation went on a snap strike in Belagavi recently in protest against their deputation as supervisors over Booth Level Officers for the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.A delegation of employees met Mayor Preeti Kamkar and complained to her that they are already under stress, as they have been tasked with revenue collection accounts maintenance and property registration, monsoon preparation, census and supervision of relief centres and other such issues.“Some of us are old and suffering from illness. Additional burden of supervising BLOs will add to this burden,” they said.Leaders Yallesh Bachchalpuri, Sagar Kamble, B.S. Kolkar, P.R. Patil, L.C. Kalapatri, P.S. Nayak, P.O. Halagekar, B.P. Hoovannavar, G.A. Palkar and others were present.Meanwhile, officials have said that names of nearly three lakh voters in the district are yet to be mapped. Of the 41.22 lakh electors, names of only 38.22 lakh have been mapped in the first round. As many as 2.9 lakh voters remain unmapped due to missing or incomplete records.Belagavi North Assembly Constituency has the highest number of unmapped voters at 71,293, followed by Belagavi South with 42,964 voters, taking the numbers of unmapped voters in the city to 1.1 lakh voters.Mapping is being done based on the 2001 electoral rolls and the 2002 voting activities. Those whose parents or grandparents names do not appear in the 2002 electoral rolls are considered unmapped. BLOs are marking names unmapped due to logical discrepancies like missing names from the 2002 data base. Similar is the case of residents who have migrated from Belagavi to other cities for education, employment, marriage or other reasons.BLOs will conduct door-to-door visits between June 30 and July 29. Voters will be required to submit any one of the 12 documents prescribed by the ECI along with a self-attested declaration form. Those who fail to provide the required information may be marked as absent. As per the schedule, the draft electoral rolls will be published on August 5, objections and claims will be considered until October 3 and the final voter list will be released on October 7.
