Yalinka Senekal, 13

A Nelson Mandela Bay family had barely made it onto the street after being evicted from their home when a minibus taxi mowed down their 13-year-old daughter.

Desperate to save her, Yalinka Senekal's father dropped to the ground and pressed his hands to her wounds while her mother screamed for help.

But there was nothing he could do, and the grade five Laerksool Frans Conradie pupil took her last breath and died in his arms.

"It is a sad, sad situation," Yalinka's uncle, Michael Davis, told IOL as he described the nightmare his sister, Susan, brother-in-law, Charl, and their two surviving children, aged 18 and two, went through.
