Aaron Gash / Associated PressJune 12, 2026 Updated 9:01 pm EDTWith Milwaukee Brewers flamethrower Jacob Misiorowski starting Friday night’s series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies, and Phillies ace Cristopher Sánchez scheduled to pitch Sunday, Misiorowski had a chance to set the tone for a highly anticipated series featuring this season’s most dominant starting pitchers. He wasted no time, striking out leadoff man Kyle Schwarber with a 104.5 mph four-seamer that set a record for velocity from a starting pitcher since MLB tracking began in 2008 — breaking the record he set when he threw a pitch 103.7 mph in his last start, in Denver against the Colorado Rockies. The 24-year-old righty actually set a record earlier in the matchup with Schwarber. After falling behind with two balls that both registered 103.4 mph, Misiorowski threw a 104.0 mph fastball for a strike. Two pitches later, Schwarber argued with home-plate umpire Chad Fairchild after striking out on a foul tip against the record-breaking pitch.
