Its tourism potential is immense, with integrated attractions that combine nature, culture and sustainability. Our coastline is home to the only open sea delta in the Americas — the Parnaíba Delta. This natural refuge enchants tourists from all over the world with its unique landscape and singular biodiversity, which is, in itself, an asset of international value.Through integrated itineraries, such as the Route of Emotions, which connects the coast of Piauí with that of Ceará and Maranhão, tourists can enjoy sustainable and authentic ecotourism, offering experiences that cannot be replicated in any other destination.The natural parks of Piauí are an attraction for scientific and adventure tourism. What sets them apart?The natural parks of Piauí stand out for their unique combination of cultural, scientific and environmental value. Serra da Capivara National Park is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site; Serra das Confusões National Park has enormous potential, with archaeological sites still undergoing scientific research; and Sete Cidades National Park is another area of great cultural and scenic importance. These parks have an archaeological heritage, with thousands of cave paintings that help tell the story of the first peoples of the Americas. This cultural value is a unique feature compared to other natural destinations in the world. All of them already have infrastructure to welcome visitors and a tourism potential that is being consolidated through profound cultural experiences for visitors.With a 13% increase in the number of international tourists in 2024 compared to 2023, Brazil is experiencing a boom in tourism. What is Piauí’s strategy for consolidating and expanding its tourism industry?The main pillars of the Piauí Tourism Secretariat’s strategy are positioning the state as a unique destination with a strong identity; investing in quality infrastructure in areas such as hotels, restaurants, transport and logistics; developing integrated regional itineraries; participatory management; and international promotion and investment attraction.Tourism is one of the strategic axes of economic and social development in Piauí. In partnership with Embratur, the Federal Government, Sebrae and private operators, we are consolidating a public policy that strengthens the sector, creates jobs, generates income and enhances the natural and cultural heritage of Piauí.The logistics of accessing Piauí, particularly with regard to airports, has been identified as one of the main challenges for tourism in the region. What infrastructure currently exists in the state?Piauí has made great strides in terms of air connectivity. Today, the state has three major airports: Teresina Airport, Parnaíba Airport, and Serra da Capivara Airport. In addition to these gateways, there are fifteen other regional airports strategically distributed throughout the state, capable of handling commercial aviation, executive aviation, and charter flights.Although the Brazilian aviation sector is still limited in terms of the number of airlines, Piauí has overcome logistical barriers and continues to expand its air services, strengthening tourist access to the state’s main destinations.
