Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday expressed grief over the fire in Tughlakabad Extension that claimed three lives, and said the injured were being provided the best possible medical care.In a post on X, Ms. Gupta stated, “The Delhi government is closely monitoring the situation, and all concerned departments are working in coordination to provide timely support and assistance.”Questioning govt.Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj, meanwhile, questioned the Bharatiya Janata Party government over the status of inquiries into recent fire incidents and demanded that the reports be made public.“Without the findings of these investigations, it remains impossible to determine responsibility or prevent similar incidents in the future,” Mr. Bharadwaj said after inspecting the site of Friday’s fire.Mr. Bharadwaj said that if the government is serious about preventing such incidents, it should make inquiry reports public and take strict action based on the findings.“Inquiries are routinely announced after such incidents in Delhi, but their reports rarely see the light of day. After the Palam fire tragedy in March, authorities said the inquiry would take one to one-and-a-half months. However, no report has been released explaining what happened or who was responsible,” he said, adding that inquiry reports into the Vivek Vihar fire, which killed nine, and the Malviya Nagar fire, which claimed 23 lives, are yet to be released despite assurances they would be ready within a week and three days respectively.“More than a week has passed, but the report on the Malviya Nagar incident has not been released,” he said. The AAP leader said that making these reports public was essential to fix accountability and prevent similar incidents.Honours for rescuersMeanwhile, the Chief Minister honoured citizens, police personnel, administrative officials and rescue workers for their role in rescue operations during the fire incidents.“The Delhi government salutes these true heroes who placed humanity above personal safety and stepped forward to help others,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) read. Ms. Gupta presented them with commendation certificates and cheques of ₹21,000 each.She specially honoured Riyazuddin Mansoori for his role during the Hauz Rani fire, where he laid out mattresses that helped save several lives.Ms. Gupta ensured reimbursement of the cost of the mattresses he used and also presented him with a cheque of ₹21,000, the CMO stated.The CM had announced an ex gratia payment of ₹10 lakh to the families of the deceased in the recent incidents and ₹2 lakh to the injured.
