According to Yoruba Union, a traditional ruler in Olayinka, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, was kidnapped and later killed by terrorists despite the payment of a ransom reportedly amounting to N21 million.
The Yoruba Union, Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has described President Bola Tinubu's Democracy Day speech as a mockery of Nigeria's democratic struggle, lamenting that dozens of kidnapped schoolchildren, teachers, women and children remain in terrorists' captivity while insecurity continues to worsen across the country.
The group also condemned the treatment meted out to human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, who was teargassed by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force during a Democracy Day protest in Abuja.
In a statement issued by the Convener of the Union, Olusola Badero, and released by its Home Director, Princess Balogun, the organisation said democracy had effectively died in Nigeria when citizens demanding accountability were attacked while innocent victims remained abandoned in kidnappers' dens.
