Displaced Malawian Nationals fleeing anti-immigration protests have gathered at the Sherwood Hall Park in Durban.
The number of Malawian nationals seeking refuge in tents at the Sherwood Hall grounds has risen from 75 to an estimated 6,000 people in six days, and the number continues to rise.
"We have over 6,000 people on site and the numbers are still rising," said community activist Ahzar Vice Bennett, who has been providing daily essentials to the throngs of families.
"The only assistance we need now is arranging safe transportation (buses) for them to their country."
By Thursday, R2.2 million was required to procure 15 buses. He said this number rose to R3,5 million as additional buses are needed.
