After being informed that the lake development works, which began in 2022, are yet to be completed, Sushma Godbole, Special Commissioner (Forest, Environment and Climate Change), Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), directed officials to expedite the pending works at Hulimavu Lake and take immediate steps to prevent sewage from entering the waterbody, which residents said was causing pollution.Following the inspection, Ms. Godbole instructed Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) officials to expedite the construction of the sewage treatment plant (STP) and put in place measures to ensure that untreated sewage does not flow into the lake.The Special Commissioner also inspected flood-prone areas around Arekere Lake and directed officials to take precautionary measures ahead of the monsoon to prevent flooding. She further instructed the concerned departments to immediately relocate optical fibre cables and Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) power lines that are hindering road and stormwater drain work.
