AS Roma has officially confirmed Tony D’Amico as the club’s new sporting director, handing him a deal that runs through June 2028. The appointment, which was first reported in late May 2026 and formally announced around June 9, caps a months-long search by the Friedkin ownership group to reshape the club’s sporting department.
D’Amico’s contract reportedly includes an option to extend through 2029. His first major task: locking down new deals for Argentine forward Paulo Dybala and Italian defender Gianluca Mancini, two players Roma considers essential to its Serie A ambitions.
From Atalanta to Rome
D’Amico arrives in the Italian capital after serving as sporting director at Atalanta since 2022. He departed the Bergamo-based club through an amicable agreement during a transitional period that saw Cristiano Giuntoli take over responsibilities.
Roma had been operating without a permanent sporting director following the earlier departures of Frederic Massara and Tiago Pinto during the 2025-2026 season cycle.
