The UK government has officially confirmed the appointment of Sir Ian Cheshire as the new chair of Ofcom.

His appointment was finalized following his recent pre-appointment hearing at the Science, Innovation and Technology select committee.

Ofcom is the UK government's media regulator and competition authority for the broadcasting, Internet, telecommunications, and postal industries.

The UK government named Cheshire as its preferred choice for its new chair back in April, stating at the time that he would be awarded a four-year term.
