The Tiruchi Railway Division has won eight efficiency awards under various categories, given away as part of the Southern Railway’s Railway Week celebrations held in Chennai on June 11.The division bagged the second position in the General Manager’s Inter-Divisional Overall Efficiency Shield and was the winner in seven other categories. It bagged the Inter Divisional Cleanliness Shield with the Tiruchi Railway Station being adjudged the Best Kept Station. The Diesel Traction Training Centre, Ponmalai, was adjudged the Best Training Institute.The Division bagged Efficiency Shields in Mechanical, Medical, Personnel, and Planning -Work Study categories, besides being adjudged the Best Divisional Store.These apart, four officers and 11 Staff of the division, were awarded by the General Manager for meritorious and commendable work during the 2025-26.The Vishisht Rail Seva Puraskars 2026 were given away by R.N. Singh, General Manager, Southern Railway, on Thursday.Commending the staff, Balak Ram Negi, Divisional Railway Manager,Tiruchi, said a “remarkable performance” of the division had laid the foundation for these prestigious awards.In 2025-26, Mr.Negi said, the division had recorded earnings of ₹1,390.22 crore and handled 41.07 million originating passengers. It had achieved freight loading of 13.24 million tonnes for the fourth consecutive year.“The division had significantly enhanced passenger amenities, expanded renewable energy initiatives and strengthened infrastructure and safety measures.
