TRAVELLERS arriving in South Africa who appear unwell may be subjected to additional health screening as authorities strengthen measures to prevent the importation of Ebola.
South Africa has ramped up health screening at all ports of entry as Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda continue to raise concerns across the region.
Health authorities say they are increasing surveillance measures to reduce the risk of imported cases entering the country.
Foster Mohale, the Department of Health spokesperson, said authorities are using a multi-layered screening system that includes observing travellers for signs of illness, conducting temperature checks when necessary and assessing potential health risks among arriving passengers.
