Rumen Radev stated that Bulgaria and Turkey share a common interest in expanding transport, energy, and digital connectivity, which is of strategic importance for the entire region. He made the remarks to journalists at the National Assembly of Bulgaria following his participation in parliamentary oversight, commenting on his meeting a day earlier with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
According to Radev, the talks covered a broad range of issues related to bilateral cooperation, including the strategic role of Bulgaria and Turkey in energy supplies, their diversification, and energy security for Central and Eastern Europe. He emphasized that these discussions are part of a wider agenda focused on energy and transport connectivity, including increasing the capacity of border crossing points and improving rail links. Among the proposals discussed was a new railway line from Edirne through Elhovo, Lesovo, and Yambol.
The prime minister noted that the contract with BOTAŞ is also part of these talks, as Turkey seeks to deepen cooperation with Bulgaria not only in natural gas but also in electricity transmission. Expert working groups from both countries are currently active, and their conclusions will be presented once their work is completed.
