The Edo State Government has directed schools that were temporarily shut down due security concerns to re-open on Monday, June 15, 2026.
The directive was contained in a circular issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Enodolomwanyi Otamere, on Thursday.
Governor Monday Okpebolo had on Tuesday instructed the temporary closure of three schools, Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School and Makeke Secondary School, in Akoko Edo in Edo North following an alert raised by the Department of State Security on the plan by bandits to attack some schools in the state.
However, according to the latest circular, the decision to reopen the schools followed a comprehensive review of the security situation by the state government in collaboration with relevant security agencies and other stakeholders.
The government stated that enhanced security measures had been implemented and additional safety mechanisms deployed across the affected communities and schools to guarantee the safety of learners, teachers and other school personnel.
