1. Vijay, Udhayanidhi, Palaniswami take oath as MLAsTamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, his nine Cabinet colleagues, Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin, former Chief Ministers Edappadi K. Palaniswami (AIADMK) and O. Panneerselvam (now DMK) are among the 231 elected representatives who took oath as members of the 17th Legislative Assembly today (May 11, 2026). AIADMK senior member C.Ve. Shanmugam (who has been holding consultations with a large group of party MLAs) did not take oath.Minister S. Keerthana, did not bring with her the certificate of election, when her name was called out in the Assembly to take oath. Later in the day, she produced the certificate to the Assembly officials and took oath. 2. AIADMK split over Leader of the Legislature Party postAfter the swearing in of all the legislators was over this morning, a letter, purportedly signed by a group of legislators of the AIADMK stating that the party’s general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami had been elected the Leader of the Legislature Party, was submitted to the Pro-tem Speaker M.V. Karuppaiah at his chamber. Later in the evening, C. Ve. Shanmugam, accompanied by S.P. Velumani and many other former Ministers including Natham R. Viswanathan and R. Kamaraj, came to the office of the Pro-tem Speaker and presented a letter, claiming the support of 30 MLAs for the leadership of Mr. Velumani. 3. Vijay calls on Stalin, Seeman, AnbumaniA day after he was sworn-in, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay sprung a surprise by calling on DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko, Naam Tamilar Katchi founder Seeman, Pattali Makkal Katchi leader Anbumani Ramadoss at their residences in Chennai.
