The Torn singer, 51, famed for playing Beth Brennan on the Aussie soap, welcomed her son Max in 2019 after choosing to use a sperm donor.‌Describing the IVF process as "brutal", she advised any women thinking of considering the procedure to do as much homework as they could beforehand, revealing that there was a lot she "didn't understand" and that there was "a lot of trauma involved".‌Speaking candidly in a new interview, she told Elizabeth Day on the How To Fail podcast: "It's pretty brutal. What I will say is that it's really important to educate yourself and to ask a lot of questions and for women to share."‌Explaining that she endured "a lot of trauma", Natalie continued: "There's a lot that I didn't know or understand about that process and there's a lot of trauma involved along the process of learning things that someone could have told me."The Counting Down The Days star said that she felt "pretty lonely" during her IVF journey, adding that when the procedure doesn't work "you've got this whole period of time that you have to pull yourself together. "‌She also hit out at claims that she used a sperm donor because she didn't want to find a partner, insisting that at her age she felt IVF was the right decision for her.Admitting that the baseless reports really mpacted her, she said: "It really upset me... because that was not the case. We just find ourselves in a situation where there's a biological clock and you know a decision needs to be made."Natalie, who has been in several high-profile relationships, including a romance with pop star Lenny Kravitz and with Friends actor David Schwimmer, married pop star Daniel Johns but in 2008 after a four-year marriage, they divorced.‌The star has never revealed the identity of the sperm donor who is father to her son. However, two years after Max was born, Natalie says becoming a parent was a dream come true, emotionally admitting it was something she had dreamt of since she was a little girl."Becoming a parent is the most incredible thing that's ever happened to me. It's something I've wanted to do since I was a little girl," she told Stellar magazine.
