Fars News Agency, which is close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, claimed a few hours after the U.S. President’s message regarding negotiations with Iran that “no text for an initial memorandum of understanding with the United States has been approved.” However, it added that “given that the U.S. has accepted the text proposed by Iran two weeks ago, the probability of this text being approved by the regime’s core decision-making bodies is high.”
Fars attributed this claim to an informed source “close to the Islamic Republic’s negotiating team,” writing that the United States “backed down from adding its own proposed clauses after Qatari mediators arrived in Tehran.”
The report stated: “Given that the United States has accepted Iran’s proposed text, the likelihood of this text being approved by the core decision-making bodies of the regime is high.” Minutes later, Fars altered the final sentence of its report regarding the probability of approving the U.S. proposal, instead reporting on the “possibility of a re-evaluation of this text” by Iran.
