Israeli firm BlackCore is suspected of carrying out digital interference operations in elections in Scotland and New York City, French authorities said on Thursday.
Marc-Antoine Brillant, head of French disinformation detection service Viginum, said forensic work had also suggested BlackCore interference operations in jurisdictions including Angola and Togo.
Viginum has previously said it believed BlackCore was behind online smear campaigns against three mayoral candidates in French local elections who belonged to a pro-Palestinian political party.
Digital interference
“This modus operandi was not limited to municipal elections in France,” said Brillant at a press conference at which he was accompanied by French prime minister Sebastien Lecornu.
