The Institute for Essential Services Reform (IESR) said the disruptions at a single power plant or transmission component not supposedly trigger widespread blackouts given PLN's 30 percent reserve margin, protection systems and network redundancies.

Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has dismissed claims that recent power outages in parts of Java were caused by dwindling coal supplies for power plants, attributing the disruptions to technical issues within the electricity system, which operated by state-owned utility firm PLN."There were problems with several machines as reported by PLN, and we will resolve them as quickly as possible," Bahlil told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Thursday, as quoted by Detik.
He also rejected speculation that coal shortages were affecting power generation.
