The Creative Factory project by the architectural office Bauart, whose partners include Prof. Emmanuel Rey of the Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST), recently received the Jury Prize at the 14thArchitizer A+ Awards in the Residential Adaptive Reuse Project category, competing against entries from over 80 countries. The Architizer A+ Awards honors a selection of outstanding architectural achievements from around the world every year.In the context of the fight against urban sprawl and land consumption, priority is today being given to the regeneration of already built-up areas. This has led to growing interest in the renovation and transformation of existing buildings. The preservation of local urban identities, the promotion of “building culture”, and the ecological benefits in terms of embodied energy all support greater intervention in the existing building stock.Located in the heart of the rapidly changing West Lausanne area, the "Creative Factory" project involves the conversion of a former logistics center into a multifunctional building. The transformation process began with a strategy focused on reusing materials available on-site, optimizing their value through existing reuse channels and short supply chains. Reorganized around a newly created internal street, the building will accommodate live-work lofts, as well as spaces dedicated for training, creation, and craftsmanship. Serving as a genuine interface with the street, the former logistics yard has been transformed into a green, tree-lined park.
