The National Assembly has approved an investment expenditure for the purchase of seven new three-coordinate radar systems intended for the Air Force. The decision passed with broad support, receiving 186 votes in favor, while only three MPs from “Revival” opposed it.

The total value of the project is set at 195 million euros. This figure includes the cost of procurement as well as a margin for unforeseen expenses that may arise during implementation.

According to the stated objectives, the acquisition is designed to modernize Bulgaria’s airspace surveillance capabilities and ensure compliance with NATO commitments. Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov explained that the initiative forms part of the country’s long-term defense development program.

He also noted during the discussions that no Bulgarian company has expressed interest in participating in the procurement process for the radar systems.

The parliamentary debate also touched on the issue of Bulgaria’s decision not to provide additional military assistance to Ukraine. In response to the criticism, Stoyanov stated:
