An essential part of my make-up bag year-round, but especially during summer, is a skin tint. Also known as a tinted serum, tinted moisturiser, or tinted sunscreen, it’s essentially a product that’s good for your skin, feels good to wear, and provides enough coverage to serve as your make-up base of choice.Tinted sunscreen aside, it’s an added bonus when skin tints or tinted moisturisers include SPF, which some of the products on this list do; but I say bonus because they should never be relied upon as your main source of sun protection. Why? Mainly because we rarely apply the recommended amount needed to achieve the level of protection stated on the label. It’s always important to wear a standalone broad-spectrum sunscreen as the final step in your skincare routine before moving on to your skin tint (or foundation) of choice. If you’re looking for lighter, glowier, fresher-looking skin while also saving time and hassle, the selection of summer skin tints below is hard to beat. They’re all quick and easy to whack on, whether that’s with your fingers or a brush. I’ve selected options across a range of price points to suit different budgets and, in most cases, they can be layered or built up to achieve extra coverage where needed.Starting strong with what is probably a very familiar product to many of you: Sculpted by Aimee HydraTint Tinted Moisturising Serum (€28 from Sculpted by Aimee). A permanent fixture in my summer make-up bag for years, this moisturising tinted serum contains 90 per cent skincare ingredients and offers light-to-medium coverage that helps even out skin tone and disguise blemishes. It’s comfortable to wear and feels more like a lightweight serum-moisturiser hybrid than a traditional complexion product, keeping skin hydrated and comfortable throughout the day. With its fluid, lightweight texture, it can be applied with fingers or buffed in with a brush in just a minute or two.In a similar vein, but perhaps a rung higher on the luxe scale – and offering slightly more coverage – is Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin Enhancing Tint (€47 from lisaeldridge.com). I find the packaging particularly clever, especially for holidays. The almost egg-shaped bottle fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and features an indent on the back where your thumb naturally rests when dispensing the product.Like HydraTint, it contains excellent skincare ingredients (more than 78 per cent of the formula), including glycerin, squalane and vitamin E, to hydrate, plump and soothe the skin, while the serum-like texture delivers luminous medium coverage, making it perfect for day, night or any time in between.Next up is another option that works for all skin types but will likely appeal most to those with oily or combination skin. Merit The Uniform Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF50 (€42 from meritbeauty.com) is slightly creamier than the previous options I’ve mentioned and settles into a natural, sheer finish that’s almost matte, but not quite. It’s easy to blend, but performs best when applied with fingers and, once it settles into the skin, you can be sure it’s not going anywhere for at least a few hours.Lastly, another great all-rounder, but particularly good for those dealing with acne, sensitivity or redness, is EltaMD UV Clear SPF46 Tinted (€63 from Institute of Dermatologists). With a lightweight, oil-free cream texture, this tinted sunscreen provides a sheer, even finish while helping to soothe and calm the skin. There’s a deeper tinted option available too, at approximately the same price point. My only gripe with this product is that the packaging doesn’t let you know when you’re about to run out. This week I’m loving ... Victoria Beckham Posh GlossVictoria Beckham Posh Gloss (€36 from Brown Thomas) Not new, but revamped, Victoria Beckham Posh Gloss (€36 from Brown Thomas) is back with an even more luxurious formula than before. Delivering an expensive-feeling gloss-meets-cream hybrid and housed in weighty packaging, Posh Gloss feels like a more grown-up take on lip gloss, delivering glorious, long-lasting shine without a hint of stickiness. Available in nine shades.
