The Seattle Kraken announced they made a pair of hires Thursday, adding former Vancouver Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin as the team’s newest vice president and assistant general manager, and former NHL head coach Pascal Vincent as an assistant coach.Allvin was the first Swedish general manager in NHL history, running the Canucks from January 2022 until April, when he was relieved of his duties. The Canucks only made it to the playoffs once in his four years at the helm, reaching the second round in 2023-24 after winning the Pacific Division title. Allvin finished second for GM of the year voting that year, losing to Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill. That season proved to be the height of Allvin’s tenure as the team’s ensuing failures led to drastic changes to the Canucks’ roster and coaching staff, including the exit of head coach Rick Tocchet and trades involving franchise defenseman and captain Quinn Hughes and forward J.T. Miller.Allvin worked as a scout for the Montreal Canadiens from 2002 to 2006, then joined the Pittsburgh Penguins organization, where he spent 16 seasons and won three Stanley Cups. Allvin worked his way up from scout to director of amateur scouting to assistant general manager in 2020. In Pittsburgh, Allvin worked closely with then-executive vice president and GM Jim Rutherford, whom he later worked under in Vancouver. Allvin also worked alongside current Kraken GM Jason Botterill in the Penguins’ front office.
