The All England Lawn Tennis Club announced a prize money pool of £64.2 million (approximately $86 million at the current exchange rate) for the 2026 Wimbledon Championships on Thursday. That represents a 20% increase over last year’s record purse.
The new figure, however, does not meet the 16% of revenue share that the players have reportedly requested from the Grand Slams. The Championships brought in £426.9 million in 2025, according to financial reports filed by the All England Club, meaning this year’s purse equals roughly 15% of the previous year’s revenues.
That revenue share is higher than last year’s 13.1%, using the same calculation, but it is slightly down from the 15.5% share that the players received in 2016.
The sport’s top players have been engaged in a dispute with the four Grand Slam tournaments this year over revenue sharing. In March, the No. 1 ranked man and woman, Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, were among 20 players who signed a letter to the heads of the four majors asking for more prize money. Revenue shares at all four majors are below the 22% standard for the highest-profile events on the ATP and WTA Tours.
When the French Tennis Federation, the organizer of the French Open, announced its prize money increase of only 9.5% for 2026 Roland Garros, the players staged a protest by limiting their press conferences to 15 minutes. The French Open’s total purse of €61.7 million was 15.6% of the previous year’s revenue total of €395 million, according to a statement released by the players in May.
