June 11 (UPI) -- The crew of a tour boat in England came to the rescue of a dog that was carried out to sea in an inflatable kayak.

Serenity Farne Island Boat Tours said on social media that Serenity 4 skipper Jimmy Reid's boat was taking guests on a tour of Inner Farne when a call came in from a Coastguard crew reporting strong winds had blown the kayak out to sea with a canine passenger.

The passengers disembarked, and Reid set about searching for the dog with crewman Aaron Fordy.

They spotted the kayak and approached the inflatable boat, and they were relieved to see the German shepherd poke his head out from the kayak.

"The crew reached out and grabbed the dog by its harness -- but in a heart-stopping moment it slipped free and plunged back into the sea," the post said. "Without hesitation, Aaron lunged over the side and grabbed the dog by the scruff of its neck. As he was almost pulled overboard himself, Jimmy grabbed hold of Aaron's leg and together they somehow managed to haul the dog safely aboard."
