Gauteng police say they are making significant progress in the investigation into the Cleveland informal settlement mass shooting.
Gauteng provincial police commissioner Lt-Gen Tommy Mthombeni has confirmed that police have obtained statements from at least 10 survivors of the mass shooting at the Jumper informal settlement in Cleveland, Johannesburg, and identified new leads in the hunt for suspects.
The shooting, which occurred on Tuesday night, claimed 12 lives and left 15 people injured.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community and is believed to be linked to disputes over illegal mining activities in the area.
Mthombeni was leading Operation Shanela in Jeppe and Cleveland on Thursday.
