Lithuania’s military chief said Thursday the country’s newly formed ANBO drone unit is aimed at offensive capabilities that could reach the Belarusian and Russian capitals.
“ANBO is not created for defence, it’s for [...] getting to Minsk, and there's a vision to reach Moscow,” Vaikšnoras told LRT RADIO in an interview broadcast on Thursday.
These capabilities would address distances “greater than 300 kilometres” that will be offered by the American HIMARS batteries that are due to arrive in Lithuania, he said.
“Everything is focused on the deterrence effect that we are creating now, together with our allies, in peacetime,” Vaikšnoras added.
Lithuania’s armed forces announced the creation of ANBO on May 27, saying the Autonomous Remote Unmanned Operations unit will focus on bringing together the military’s drone capabilities in one place.
