Velippalayam Police on Wednesday arrested a 62-year-old man in connection with the murder of an 80-year-old woman in Nagapattinam.According to police sources, the accused, Ramasamy, a native of Ramanathapuram district, was staying at a private old-age home at Sattaiyappar Street in Nagapattinam. He is engaged in fishing activities in the area.The victim, Chinnaponnu, a fish vendor from Nalliyam Thottam, was found dead near the fish market on Anna Salai on Tuesday. Vendors who discovered the body alerted the police. Police said the woman’s face had been bitten by stray dogs after her death. Her body was sent to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Orathur for postmortem.The Velippalayam Police registered a case and identified Ramasamy as the suspect based on footage from a CCTV camera installed in the locality. During the probe, they found that he allegedly attempted to sexually assault the woman while under the influence of alcohol.
