A 19-year-old history-sheeter was shot in the leg and arrested by the Hebbagodi police after he allegedly attacked a police constable with a weapon while attempting to evade arrest on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Thursday.The accused, identified as Jeeva, is a rowdy-sheeter facing multiple criminal cases, including robbery, attempt to murder, extortion and assault. He had allegedly been absconding after his involvement in a series of robberies reported in the Hebbagodi and Electronics City Police Station limits in recent weeks.Acting on a tip-off that Jeeva was hiding near Singena Agrahara, a special police team launched a search operation to apprehend him. When the police personnel tried to nab him, the accused allegedly attempted to flee.According to the police, constable Nagesh chased the suspect, who then allegedly attacked the policeman. Despite repeated warnings to surrender, the accused reportedly continued his aggressive behaviour and attempted to escape.In response, sub-inspector Ayyappa opened fire in self-defence, and the accused was shot in the leg. Jeeva collapsed on the spot and was immediately secured by the police team.Both the accused and constable Nagesh were shifted to a nearby hospital. Their condition is said to be stable.The police sources said Jeeva is a resident of Tirupalya. A case has been registered at the Hebbagodi Police Station, and further investigation is under way.
