The lion which is believed to have escaped from uMkhuze Falls Private Game Reserve, northern KwaZulu-Natal was euthanised after darting efforts failed.
The killing of a lion that escaped from a private game reserve in northern KwaZulu-Natal has sparked shock and outrage among members of the public after authorities were unable to safely capture the animal.
The lion, believed to have escaped from Mkhuze Falls Private Game Reserve, was tracked after it wandered into the Langwane area of the Mpilo Private Game Reserve on Sunday.
According to an update issued on Wednesday, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife authorised the destruction of the animal after attempts to immobilise it using tranquiliser darts proved unsuccessful.
The lion was euthanised at around 8pm.
