MANILA, Philippines — Fisherfolk in Navotas marked World Oceans Day on June 8 with a protest against ongoing reclamation projects in Manila Bay, saying the developments continue to threaten livelihoods, coastal communities and marine ecosystems despite a government suspension on reclamation activities.

Members of the Navotas chapter of Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas, or PAMALAKAYA, gathered at C4 Centennial Park to oppose several projects in the bay, including the 650-hectare Navotas Coastal Bay Reclamation Project being undertaken by San Miguel Corp. in partnership with the local government of Navotas City.
