Communications-services companies fell, but not by as much as the broad market, as traders bet on merger activity in the sector.
Shares of T-Mobile US rose. Deutsche Telekom Timotheus Höttges is pushing a merger of the German carrier with its U.S affiliate, in what would be the largest public-company merger in history, The Wall Street Journal reported. Verizon and A&T shares also rose, as traders sought out evergreen companies.
