Andreessen Horowitz’s crypto division just added a new name to its investing roster. Robbie Petersen, previously a junior partner at Dragonfly, has joined a16z crypto as an investment partner, a move announced on June 10 through his X account.
From Delphi Digital to Dragonfly to a16z
Petersen’s career arc reads like a guided tour through crypto’s research and investment pipeline. He started out conducting research at Delphi Digital, one of the industry’s more respected independent research shops. From there, he moved into venture capital at Dragonfly, where he held the title of junior partner.
At Dragonfly, Petersen carved out a niche focusing on agentic commerce, AI-native payments, and broader crypto infrastructure. Agentic commerce refers to autonomous AI agents that can transact on behalf of users. AI-native payments envisions financial rails built specifically for machine-to-machine transactions.
Petersen holds a degree from McGill University and is now listed among a16z crypto’s investing members on the firm’s official team page. His X bio was updated on June 10 to reflect the new role.
