Kamatchie Naicker
A year after a blind Phoenix grandmother was killed, her family said they were not only still mourning their loss, but also enduring another painful reality: a justice system that failed to provide answers, accountability, or closure.
On June 9 last year, 83-year-old Kamatchie Naicker and her now 63-year-old daughter, Shirley Appalsamy, were repeatedly stabbed allegedly with a butcher’s knife at their home in Westham.
A small kitchen knife was also found at the scene.
Naicker, a grandmother of nine, sustained multiple stab wounds to her face and body. Paramedics from Reaction Unit South Africa declared her dead.
