Kolkata: After taking charge as West Bengal minister for Industry, Commerce & Enterprises Tapas Roy said on Wednesday that the first and foremost priority of the BJP government in Bengal is bringing back Tatas in Bengal, be it Singur or any other location, in order to send a positive signal to the industry at large in the country and globally."After Tatas left West Bengal, the investors did not find Bengal’s environment conducive for investments during the previous Trinamool regime. There was a flight of capital and altogether, 6688 big industries have left Bengal. The main aim is to project Bengal as the most investor-friendly environment and bring the investors who left Bengal, including the Tatas," Bengal industry minister told ET.“Industrialization is the future of Bengal. We will project Bengal as the most industry friendly state. This is our challenge. This is our Chief Minister’s main idea and dream of Prime Minister as well,” Roy said.“Why are we speaking about return of the Tatas? Tata’s return to Bengal will give a positive signal to the country and the global investors. Tata’s investment can come not only in the automobile industries but can be for any other sectors,” he said.Speaking about Amul’s investment in Bengal, Roy said, “Already a message has been sent in the first month. We are an industry-friendly government, and it is not only through our words and established through our action.”“Amul is making an investment worth Rs 650 crore in Bengal as the new double-engine government in Bengal is only one month old. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah want Bengal to turn around from its present economic condition,” Roy said.Land policyThe new state government is also looking at a new land policy which will address various issues, including land acquisition blockades faced by the industry. “We have to think about the new land acquisition policy,” he said.Former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's government did not acquire land for the industries—it was a clear stand by her. “In 15 years during her regime, Mamata Banerjee neither worked for agriculture nor for the industry. What did Mamata Banerjee do? She came to power due to Singur. But what did she do with Singur?” Roy said.“Industry is the future of West Bengal. What will happen to our youth and new generation, if industry does not get revamped in Bengal! We have to work hard to bring investments to the state,” Roy said.Banerjee organized the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) but there is no investment data and outcome of the previous BGBS, he noted.
