Villagers and members of the CPI (M) blockaded a police station near Singampunari on Wednesday, condemning an Inspector for failing to properly investigate the death of a teenage boy.The protesters said Vishal, 17, of S.V. Mangalam near Singampunari in Sivaganga district was found dead on the night of April 14. His relatives alleged that on that day, a gang severely assaulted, abducted him on a two-wheeler, and murdered him, and then set it up as suicide. They urged the police to register a murder case and arrest those involved. However, it is alleged that S.V. Mangalam Police Inspector Sasikala registered it as a suspicious death case.Following this, a protest was held on May 21 condemning the Inspector for not investigating the case properly. As no action was taken even after that, the party members and the villagers, led by CPI(M) district secretary Mohan, blockaded the police station. When the police blocked them with barricades, the protesters staged a road roko on Dindigul-Karaikudi National Highway. Additional Superintendent of Police Francis, and others held talks with them.During the talks, the officials said an investigation into the complaint would be conducted under the leadership of Kanchanadevi, who had been appointed as Inspector (in-charge) of S.V. Mangalam police station, and appropriate action would be taken. The people dispersed after warning that appropriate action must be taken within two days after conducting the investigation, failing which they would lay siege to the office of the Superintendent of Police.
