Minister for Food and Civil Supplies P. Venkataramanan has said that efforts were being made to ensure procurement and movement of paddy without laxity.According to an official release, the Food Minister during his inspection visit to the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation’s modern rice mill and godown at Sitharkadu, Mayiladuthurai on Wednesday (June 10), has said that paddy was being procured directly from farmers in Delta districts and steps have been initiated to increase the number of godowns to store paddy. Sites for new godowns would be identified and set up soon to ensure procurement and storage of paddy, he added.Earlier, he visited the District Headquarters hospital, named as Periyar Hospital, in Mayiladuthurai and inquired about the health condition of Hariharan, a fireman, who sustained injuries in a fire accident rescue operation at Sitharkadu - Santhaipettai area on June 9, and convalescing at the hospital. He also went through the hospital records and inspected the treatment services offered at the hospital.Subsequently, the Minister inspected the paddy sowed on five acres of land through SRI method at Aruvapadi hamlet in Mayiladuthurai taluk, inspected the ₹21 crore worth 21,000 tonne capacity storage point with modern roof facility at Villiyanallur hamlet in Mayiladuthurai tahluk and the open storage point at Thirupunkur village in Sirkazhi tahluk, the release added.
