Tamil Nadu M.K. Stalin holds a meeting with officials on paddy procurement

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday (October 2, 2025) instructed officials to ensure that necessary facilities are provided for the procurement of paddy and its storage in warehouses.In a video conference from his camp office in Chennai, Mr. Stalin held a meeting with collectors of five delta districts and officials of the Co-operative and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department.“This year, we have created a record in paddy production, and I have instructed everyone to ensure that necessary facilities are provided at the paddy procurement and storage warehouses,” Mr. Stalin said in a post on X.“I have also instructed that the paddy grains, the result of farmers’ hard work, are protected until they reach the mill,” he added.Agriculture Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies R. Sakkarapani, and Industries Minister T.R.B. Rajaa were present in the meeting.According to an official release, paddy procurement has reached a record 47.99 lakh metric tonnes in 2024-2025.Last September, the paddy procurement from five delta districts of Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Thanjavur, and Cuddalore was 1.27 lakh metric tonnes, but in this year’s September the procurement has been 3.20 metric tonnes from these districts alone, it noted.
