The government will not cut short the current school term despite a wave of unrest hitting 204 boarding schools nationwide, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba has said.

Speaking during a press conference on Wednesday, June 10, Ogamba confirmed the second-term mid-term break will proceed as scheduled from June 24 to June 28, 2026, rejecting pressure to send learners home early.

The announcement came as the ministry disclosed that 16 pupils died in a fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil Sub-County, Nakuru County, a fire investigators established was set deliberately by students. Nine suspects have been arraigned and remanded in custody.
