Mississippi residents have sued SpaceX and its xAI subsidiary over gas-powered turbines that they say have caused significant degradation in living conditions around the Southaven power site in the state, which supplies energy to xAI’s Colossus 2 data centre complex in adjacent Memphis, Tennessee.
The gas-powered turbines operated by xAI blast “omnipresent and inescapable” noise that has caused health issues and diminished property values, says the lawsuit filed in Oxford, Mississippi federal court on Tuesday.
xAI and SpaceX negligently failed to curb the disturbance and created a public nuisance through excessive and offensive noise, the lawsuit says.
‘Havoc’
Three residents filed the complaint on behalf of an estimated class of more than 10,000 residents.
