Twenty-three people allegedly linked to a fraud syndicate operating from a makeshift call centre in Umhlanga have been arrested.
Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia recently detailed how an alleged syndicate operated a makeshift call center in uMhlanga to defraud victims by gaining access to their bank accounts.
This followed a recent questions posed by Bongani Michael Mkongi, an Umkhonto weSizwe Party representative in the National Assembly, to Cachalia.
On April 14 this year, authorities arrested more than 20 suspects, including key individuals believed to be central to the operation, at the luxury property.
They have since appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court and were released on bail.
