Ethiopia is aiming to speed housing development by implementing cutting-edge building technology. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has highlighted the possibilities of 3D-printed dwellings, prefabricated steel structures, and container housing to change the country's housing industry.
Following a recent meeting of Ethiopia's Council of Ministers, government officials visited a home construction demonstration site that showcased three innovative building technologies.
The technologies are intended to substantially shorten building timetables, allowing high-quality homes to be finished in days or weeks rather than the months or years required by traditional construction.
According to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, the demonstration showed that speedy building and high-quality homes can coexist when sophisticated technology is used efficiently.
The site showcased large-scale 3D printing systems capable of producing building components with minimal labor, light steel prefabrication techniques that allow structures to be quickly assembled on-site, and container-based housing solutions that can be deployed quickly in both urban and rural settings.
